Backup restore testing for business data
A successful backup notification does not show how quickly you could work again. We perform an agreed trial restore to a separate location, check the recovered data and record the time, obstacles and next steps.
Arrange a restore test
What a restore test tells you
The test establishes whether a selected backup can restore a specific document, folder or agreed system, and whether the recovered content is usable. Scope matters: successfully restoring one file does not prove that the entire business can recover. We define the scenario and the person who will accept the result before starting.
NBG TEAM supports businesses in Belgrade and New Belgrade that already have backups but want evidence for a defined recovery scenario. If copies still need to be organised, start with business backup planning.
Preparation without overwriting live data
- The business scenario, backup source and recovery point.
- Access credentials, decryption keys and available licences.
- A separate destination or appropriate test environment.
- Success criteria and an authorised person to check the content.
- A record of duration, errors and the agreed disposal of test copies.
A trial restore should not overwrite a working folder or live database. If application testing needs another server, an isolated network or the vendor’s help, these requirements are defined before work starts.
How the result is checked
Technical recovery
We restore the agreed data set and record the steps, duration and exceptions. Availability of a key or administrator access is part of the practical check, not an assumption.
Business usability
An authorised user opens representative documents or checks the test application with its vendor. We confirm the agreed data date and record what was not tested.
A record instead of an assumption
Your business receives a report identifying scope, the backup used, the outcome and obstacles requiring attention. We measure the specific test; the same recovery time cannot be promised for every future incident. Data volume, download speed, hardware condition and application availability can change it.
Findings may lead to changes in backup frequency, separate storage, key availability, procedural documentation or a larger recovery exercise. If storage is changing, the test can be coordinated with NAS data migration and the new protection plan.
Frequency and cost
Test frequency depends on system importance, infrastructure changes and acceptable loss of work. A check is especially useful after replacing a backup system or moving substantial data. Cost depends on the scenario, data volume, test environment and application-vendor involvement. An initial enquiry helps define a sensible first test.
